The Design Drafter performs computer-aided design (CAD) and manual drafts to create drawings and sketches for Gas Transmission


  • All NorthWestern Energy employees are required to adhere to company safety standards and the Code of Business Conduct & Ethics
  • Ensure all actions are consistent with NorthWestern Energy's values, mission, and strategic business objectives
  • Perform drafts using AutoCAD for the gas transmission facilities
  • Prepare drawings and sketches for engineers, supervisors, consultants, etc.
  • Assist engineers with analyzing and reviewing drawings and sketches to ensure accuracy
  • Modify and edit drawings and designs to drafts as they are implemented
  • Compile reports and drawings in PDFs for future use
  • Minimal Travel with engineers to off-site work areas to verify drawings
  • Track progress reports, plots, and work books for engineers and supervisors
  • Work all required hours including evenings and weekends in response to acute services
  • Lift and manipulate a box of drafting materials weighing up to 50 pounds on a minimal basis

Marginal Work Functions

  • Scan, print, file, and retrieve documents
  • Travel to trainings, conferences, and off-site meetings (up to 10% travel per year)*
  • Train new drafters on standard processes to ensure consistency*


  • An Associate's Degree in Drafting or a similar field of study
  • Proficient with CAD systems and related products
  • Previous experience with drafting and CAD systems
  • Must be able to demonstrate and maintain a good safety record
  • Knowledge with Microsoft products
