Position General Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Audit Director, perform credit review of agricultural, commercial, consumer and real estate loans to assess credit quality, the reasonableness of the risk ratings assigned and the level of adherence to sound lending practices and to the Bank’s loan policy and underwriting procedures. Position requires approximately 40-50% travel, including overnight travel. Knowledge of financial statement and cash flow analysis is necessary for job success. Well developed interpersonal communication skills and ability to maintain confidentiality is critical.

Education, Experience and Certification Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  1.      Strong commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
  2.      A college degree in accounting or finance and two years credit review or commercial/agricultural lending experience.  
  3.      Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Access or related software.
  4.      Demonstrated ability to provide information in concise verbal and written formats. 

Specific Skill Requirements:

  1.      Knowledge of financial statement and cash flow analysis and generally accepted accounting principles.
  2.      Familiarity with legal contracts and the Uniform Commercial Code as related to lending and collateral perfection.
  3.      Attention to Detail – noticing errors and gaps; documenting and following up on important details.
  4.      Applied Learning Ability – understanding new information and complex ideas quickly and without confusion.
  5.      Team Playing – willingly collaborating and cooperating with others; developing effective working relationships.

Position Specific Responsibilities, Duties and Competencies

Credit Review Functions:

Perform individual loan file reviews with the following objectives:

To assess the repayment source and collateral protection for funds advanced; determine if the loan was properly approved and closed in accordance with all conditions of the approval; verify that the loan is performing in accordance with its structure and identify weaknesses that could jeopardize the Bank’s ability to collect on the loan.

To review note and security documents to confirm validity of security perfection.

To review the loan officer’s analysis and determine if sufficient information was analyzed to make an informed underwriting judgment and if adequate monitoring of the credit and the borrower’s repayment ability is being performed.

To identify potential areas of non-compliance with Bank policy or regulatory guidelines.

To assess the reasonableness of the risk rating assigned and to provide support for any risk grade changes.

Discuss findings with lenders and prepare written reports with recommendations for corrective action when necessary.

Conduct meetings with Branch Management to discuss overall branch performance and portfolio quality.

Prepare summary reports encompassing assessment of overall portfolio quality, credit administration and documentation accuracy.

Maintain a database of credits reviewed and monitor lender responses and actions for correcting exceptions.

 Work on special projects as requested by the Audit Director.

  1.      Maintain a working knowledge of state and federal banking laws and regulations including safety and soundness, lending, consumer compliance, Bank Secrecy, and Community Reinvestment.
