onX is seeking a talented Backend Engineer to help our Customer Created Content team. This team is responsible for developing features and services to support the map annotations and collaborations that help our users effectively plan and execute on their adventures. This is a great opportunity to be a part of a dynamic growing company focused on making an impact on the business, working with new technologies, and solving hard problems. This position reports to a Manager of Software Development. 



Missoula, MT; Bozeman, MT; or Remote from the USA only.  Additionally, being authorized to work in the U.S. is a precondition of employment. We do not sponsor work visas (of any kind ) for this position at this time. 



  • Build scalable services to support new features and products for the onX suite of apps
  • Write unit, integration, and acceptance tests
  • Participate in architectural decision involving our services
  • collaborate effectively with other team members and stakeholders

  • Participate in an on-call schedule to support backend services after work hours

  • Minimum five (5) years of professional software development experience required, where APPI development was your professional focus for at least two (2) years. 
  • You have experience building and debugging distributed, scalable, performance, and the ability to debug
  • You are well-versed in modern API and systems design and development
  • You have a strong computer science foundation 
  • You believe that your profession is a craft and you're driven to improve every day
  • You are an advocated for the customer and their experience
  • You want to work with other happy, talented engineer s 
  • You want to mentor junior engineers and be mentored by other senior engineers

  • Bachelor's degree in computer engineering, computer science, software engineer or related degree required
  • Experience working in GO
  • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code technologies such as terraform
  • Familiarity with at lease on major cloud platform provider such as Google Cloud Platform 
  • Experience with geospatial databases such as PostGIS
  • Experience working with a distributed team
