SUMMARY

The Director of Community Relations is responsible for ensuring that the Bank’s Commitment to Community (C2C) is aligned with and supports First Interstate’s Mission, Vision, Values and Strategic Goals. This position also serves as the Executive Director of First Interstate Foundation and is charged with leading, directing, growing, and developing the Community Relations team for First Interstate Bank. This position reports to the EVP General Counsel and collaborates closely across all divisions of the Bank.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: other duties may be assigned.

  • Leads First Interstate’s Commitment to Community (C2C) team and works closely with all our branches as they implement their commitment to their local communities through philanthropy, leadership and volunteering, community development, financial education, public relations, and sustainability

  • Aligns C2C efforts with the Bank’s mission, vision, values, goals, and overall strategic vision

  • Is responsible for the development of annual companywide C2C Goals

  • Develops and provides C2C training for leaders across the Bank that includes monthly C2C calls

  • Drives C2C performance through measurable metrics and efficiencies utilizing data collection and analysis

  • Provides data and impact stories for various communications and reports, including: ESG Report, Community Reports, C2C dashboards, press releases and social media

  • Builds awareness and accountability for C2C throughout the Bank

  • Develops C2C communication strategies to effectively inform and engage

  • Responsible for the Bank’s philanthropic activities that include donations, grants, employee matching programs, and the employee emergency fund

  • Manages financial education outreach that includes Mini Banks, and ABA Programs

  • Researches, recommends, and implements financial education materials and digital tools

  • Responsible for the employee volunteer matching program

  • Works with other Bank leaders to implement the annual companywide day of service

  • Develops and manages annual Community Relations departmental budgets

  • Responsible for recruiting talented team members, as well as, training, equipping, retaining, developing, coaching, and leading a high-performance team

  • Builds and leverages effective relationships with peers and coworkers to encourage teamwork, as well as foster collaboration across Bank divisions

  • Works in partnership with Marketing and Communications to develop and share effective and informative C2C communications as needed

  • Collaborates with Community Development to support CRA and C2C efforts

  • Responsible for external relationships, including nonprofits, foundations, corporate citizenship, and philanthropic membership associations

  • Uses expertise to provide leadership in the nonprofit and philanthropic sector by serving on boards, giving presentations, and being a strategic thought partner

  • Actively advances and leverages philanthropic leadership to provide opportunities for First Interstate Bank

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree and evidence of leadership capability required. Three years relevant experience preferred. Event and project management experience. Experience serving as a spokesperson. Proven experience managing a team.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to work independently as well as collaborate/coordinate efforts across functions and geographies. Proficiency with Windows systems and MS Office required. Strong understanding of corporate/private foundation administration, regulations, best practices in grantmaking, and the nonprofit sector. Thorough understanding of community involvement principles, including stakeholder engagement, alignment to strategy, volunteer development, timeline creation, data/results collection, measurement, and evaluation. Ability to adapt to changing conditions, requirements, and deadlines. Strong written and oral communication skills

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex information, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as discounts, interest, commission, proportions, percentages with the ability to apply the concepts. Able to interpret financial information as it pertains to the management of the bank.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and sit. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must

occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust/focus.
