Job Description

The Compass Intern will support the Community Manager in the daily management of Foundant’s online community, Compass, by learning its features and functionalities, moderating discussions, observing member interactions, tracking metrics and data trends, composing newsletters, and identifying new opportunities for the community to support Foundant’s impact on the philanthropic sector. The Compass Intern will immerse themselves in community management strategies via virtual learning opportunities and community management forums.

General Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for this role will have an interest in psychology and human behavior, enthusiasm for developing community management strategies, and the ability to encourage engagement amongst community members. Attention to detail is a must, as well as the ability to prioritize tasks and adhere to rolling project deadlines. Strong writing/editing skills are required, and the ability to identify data trends would be beneficial. This position reports to the Community Manager, but will work cross-departmentally with nearly every other Foundant team in some form.

Compass Intern Responsibilities:

  • Gain an intimate understanding of all three Foundant products: GLM, GrantHub, and CommunitySuite
  • Learn to communicate professionally and clearly with not only clients, but those working in other teams
  • Gain an intimate understanding of Foundant’s online community, Compass, by training on the Vanilla Forums online community platform to learn its structure, features, and functionalities.
  • Work closely with the Community Manager to ensure the appropriate day-to-day management of Compass and goal-tracking.
  • Learn about Compass members to identify potential Compass advocates and other opportunities for adding value to the member experience.
  • Support engagement of new members as it relates to the introduction of new Foundant products and other goals.
  • Learn about opportunities, and potentially support the implementation of Compass integration with other Foundant systems, including Zapier, Salesforce, Marketo, Workato and more.
  • Train on Marketo (Foundant’s Marketing Automation System) and utilize Marketo for creating monthly Compass newsletters 
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure the accuracy of roles, permissions, images, and other platform settings.
  • Create and update standard operating procedures and training documents based on need and changes to system features.
  • Identify areas for change/improvement in community management processes.
  • Attend marketing meetings, community management webinars, new feature release announcements, virtual conferences, and chats to exchange ideas and learn best practices from other community managers.
