The Land Analyst is primarily responsible for supporting Land Professionals in completing assigned tasks by performing routine to complex functions involving the retrieval, preparation, processing, and management of data. The Land Analyst will also contribute to other inner departmental (Management and engineering) needs such as producing queries, reports, and analytics for team members from many different data sources,

  • Ensure all actions are consistent with NorthWestern Energy's values, mission, and strategic business objectives
  • Organize department records and related data
  • Manage lands data management systems (Quorum Land System, Content Manager) and other data management systems (SharePoint, Elogger, SAP)
  • Research and set up lease records, land well records, land owners, and titles
  • Trace ownership of land and mineral rights in courthouses, archives, homes, and offices of landowners, and resource owners
  • Coordinate data retrieval; collect, load, manipulate, and manage while working with groups in other teams and departments as required
  • Prepare proposals and correspondence to partners and landowners; finalize reports and documents
  • Set up and maintain customized forms, reports, and map definitions; ensure maps accurately reflect correct lease ownership, lease records, and merging corporate records
  • Assist Land professionals with project documents, research, and due diligence
  • Assist management and engineering with project documents, technical writing, and data management
  • Responsible for monthly, quarterly, and annual compliance reports and reporting
  • Develop reports for tracking progress of key processes within the Land Department and other departments
  • Travel to meetings and conferences (up to 5% travel per year)*

Marginal Work Functions

*These functions may be considered essential based on location and other factors.

  • Answer calls from land owners regarding ownership of land and operations on their land
  • Scan, print, file and retrieve paper work


  • Demonstrate and maintain a good safety record
  • Bachelor's Degree in real estate, environmental, engineering, business, computer science or similar field of study is preferred
  • Certified Paralegal or related certifications is preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with technical and computer skills
  • Two years of related experience within land and or analyst work preferred
  • Must be able to adapt to changing work requirements
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
