Job Description


The Business Applications Technologist works in a dynamic team environment providing top-tier application support relative to Northwestern Energy's technology systems. This position requires innovative thinking, analytical aptitude, and business acumen skills. The successful candidate will work in a team environment focusing on Enterprise Applications product delivery and support. The successful candidate is the principal liaison between Business Technology and external business partners, and will work in a team environment integrating processes, data, and technology. Passion, curiosity, and drive to learn about using technology to benefit our business is key to success.

  • Some travel, including day trips and overnight will be required, depending on work location and experience
  • Ability to work extended hours as necessary
  • Participation in an on-call rotation schedule may be required

Business Technologist

  • Implement, enhance, troubleshoot, and support application product delivery
  • Partner with end users to develop roadmaps, document processes, identify requirements, and test applications
  • Influence others to work collaboratively to achieve business objectives
  • Identify the problem-to-solve and advance innovative solutions
  • Develop functional specifications including current state, future state, and gap analysis
  • Exhibit an enthusiasm for technology, streamlining business processes and introducing new automation
  • Coordinate, plan, and execute multiple work assignments meeting product delivery completion dates
  • Driven to help the business protect assets through adoption and employment of NorthWestern Energy cybersecurity policies, tools, and practices


  • Bachelor's degree from four-year accredited college in associated discipline such as Computer Science, Business and Information Technology, Accounting, or other relevant degree.
    • An equivalent combination of education and related experience may also be considered.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • General knowledge of Windows Operating systems, servers, networks, security, and business continuity practices
  • Strong organization skills to coordinate workload and employee development
  • Strong written/oral communication and documentation skills
  • SAP experience and financial application support knowledge a definite plus
  • Strong aptitude to understand current technology trends in software, cloud, cybersecurity and automation to apply them to NorthWestern Energy's business processing needs is preferred
  • Demonstrate and maintain a good safety record
  • Demonstrate high performance standards
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required
  • Self-starter who pursues self-education and is customer focused
