onX is seeking a talented Site Reliability Engineer to enable and empower our developers to move fast and make great software for our customers. As a Site Reliability Engineer, you’ll make software development and deployment at onX easy and reliable. This is a great opportunity to join a dynamic startup focused on making an impact on the business. This position will report to the VP of Engineering.

Missoula or Bozeman, MT or Remote
(Essential Job Duties)

Deploy, monitor and maintain highly available systems using technologies such as Terraform, Kubernetes and a variety of GCP services.

Maintain and extend a large, mature Terraform codebase.

Analyze systems and make recommendations to increase performance, availability and minimize cost.

Automate manual systems to minimize toil wherever possible.

Develop and maintain integrations with 3rd party monitoring and alerting systems, such as Stackdriver, Checkly, and OpsGenie.

Work to drive and grow incident response culture and best practices. As part of this, participate in an on-call rotation with the rest of the SRE team.

Collaborate in architectural decisions and direction involving our services and initiatives.


You have a B.S. or M.S. in computer science or a related field or relevant experience

You have 3+ years of experience supporting production systems

You have a strong interest and experience with operating systems, networking and virtual machine technologies

You evaluate technologies and solutions based on merit, stability, performance and the ability to debug

You understand differences in persistent datastores and their use cases

You have a strong computer science foundation

You believe that your profession is a craft and you’re driven to improve every day

You take strong ownership of your work and platform responsibilities


Familiarity with Kubernetes

Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform

Familiarity with Terraform

Strong ability to troubleshoot and break down issues

Experience working with high throughput, low latency services

Experience working with a distributed team

Experience working with GIS Mapping systems and tiles

Experience with MapBox
