Job Description

Workiva’s Information Security team provides the services and solutions to protect the services and data used by our customers, both internal and external. The Staff Security Engineer designs and implements processes and controls that ensure solutions are responsive, secure, and cost-effective and improve Workiva’s overall security posture. This role is highly technical and broadly-focused, dealing with security concerns from networking, cloud, application security, data protection, identity, and more.



  • Evaluate solutions and architectures to assess qualitative and quantitative risk
  • Identify solutions to reduce risk and enhance our prevention and detection capabilities
  • Executes and leads advanced risk and threat analysis activities, leveraging learnings from external and internal cyber trends and incidents
  • Develops and documents technical solutions that meet specifications and impact future developments (position papers, process flows, requirements, data flows, mapping to controls)
  • Promotes a security-conscious culture among engineering, information technology, and other staff
  • Researches, learns and assesses new technologies
  • Identifies issues, leads discussions and documents solutions
  • Develop in-house automation tools for assessing control effectiveness, integrating tools, building metrics and reports, and more.
  • Support technical efforts related to InfoSec compliance (SOC 2, ISO 27001, FedRAMP, etc.)


What You'll Need

  • Undergraduate Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.


  • 8+ years practical cloud information security experience
  • Experience securing AWS and Kubernetes.
  • Experience working in DevOps environments and micro service architectures.
  • Programming experience in Go, Python, Java, or similar languages.


  • Outstanding communication skills.
  • Demonstrated capability to influence own team and beyond.
  • Established a strong pattern of continuous education and personal development on information security topics


  • Up to 10% travel

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Reliable internet access for any period of time working remotely, not in a Workiva office.


How You'll Be Rewarded

  • Base Pay Range in Colorado: $155,000-$197,000
  • A discretionary bonus typically paid annually
  • Restricted Stock Units granted at time of hire


The base pay range represents the low and high end of the hiring range for this job. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to relevant skills, experience, and capabilities.
