WE ARE LOOKING FOR
onX is seeking results- and growth-driven SEO Manager with a passion for planning, coordinating, building, and reporting on high-quality, linkable content that drives sessions and conversions through leveraging in-house resources as well as freelancers (content marketing). In addition to facilitating the production of high-quality content, onX is looking for an SEO manager who has demonstrable experience in building links. This role requires a candidate with a proactive attitude, high attention to detail, incredible organizational and cross-functional skills, and an analytical mindset. You are as comfortable in SEMrush as you are in Google Analytics, and you rely on your strategic background to make sure everything the SEO team is working on is in-line with company objectives. This position will report to the Senior Web Growth Leader.
Hybrid from Montana or remote from select locations. onX’s corporate offices are located in Missoula and Bozeman, Montana. This position can be performed near a corporate office or remotely from one of onX’s “Basecamps,” which are emerging locations where our remote onXers cluster for work and adventure. onX’s current Basecamps are located within a 120-mile radius of the following: Austin, TX; Minneapolis, MN; Portland, OR; Salt Lake City, UT; and Seattle, WA.
Additionally, being authorized to work in the U.S. is a precondition of employment. We do not sponsor work visas (of any kind ) for this position at this time.
(Essential Job Duties)
Use Google Keyword Planner, Google Search Console, SEMrush, etc. to ideate on SEO content marketing campaigns and/or programmatic SEO opportunities for our three verticals (onX Hunt, onX Offroad, and onX Backcountry) as well as outdoorproject.com. During this phase, you will turn your ideas into mini business cases with wireframes when applicable to convey the vision.
Pitch vertical and marketing stakeholders on your ideas to gain buy-in.
Resource SEO campaigns using internal resources and / or freelance resources.
Move SEO campaigns through each stage of production, going as far as producing or editing web pages or blog posts yourself when needed.
Optimize web pages and blog posts including, but not limited to, slugs, title tags, meta descriptions, headings, image alt tags, internal links, etc.
Build links to our content by leveraging our content promoter playbook or your own skills and experience.
Document baseline KPIs prior to executing SEO campaigns.
Report on results weekly, monthly, and quarterly. Forecast quarterly growth goals. Manage yearly SEO budgets by vertical.
Partner with our paid search manager to solve similar problems.
Consult on vertical-led initiatives, providing SEO input where applicable.
Lead SEO initiative-related meetings including identifying stakeholders, scheduling, providing meeting descriptions, creating agendas, documenting action items, following-up accordingly, etc.
Work cross functionally with our engineering team, vertical specific teams, creative team, content, team, etc. to accomplish your goals as well as to support others in their endeavors.
Attend annual marketing conferences such as Moz Con when the opportunity arises. Present your learnings to the company. Apply relevant learnings to your day-to-day.
Supervision Exercised: None
Bachelor's Degree, preferably in an applicable field.
Five (5) or more years working in content marketing, content promotion, or link building.
Proficient with Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Google Keyword Planner, SEMrush, Google Sheets, Wordpress, (or any equivalents such as ahrefs, etc.)
Work within teams, as well as independently, to decipher problems and create solutions.
Self-driven and able to complete tasks with minimal guidance if necessary.
Ability to multitask, work independently, well under deadlines, and communicate when deadlines are at risk.
Must be willing to complete an interview take-home project relevant to SEO management.
Familiarity with work management platforms such as Asana, Trello, or others.
Portfolio of high-quality content facilitated by the candidate that has driven links.
Proficient with Google Data Studio.
HTML and CSS experience.
Marketing conference attendance, particularly Moz Con.
Google Ads (Adwords) search campaign management.
Experience in forecasting, marketing a mobile app on the web, managing people, BigQuery, and producing original research.
Project management training/certification such as Agile, Scrum, etc.
Certifications in Google Analytics, Google Ads, Google Sheets, and Google Data Studio.
Technical SEO experience. Although not a high priority for this role, working knowledge of the inner workings of technical SEO will be beneficial.
HOW YOU WILL BE MEASURED
Content strategy: Your content strategy will be graded based on its contribution to organic search growth (as measured by the following metrics)
Keyword rankings: your SEO campaigns should achieve high enough rankings to drive click-through and sessions.
Session growth: your SEO campaigns should draw in a significant volume of free organic search traffic. In addition, we want to see positive year-over-year traffic growth.
Conversions: though not your highest priority, we want to see some percent of the traffic you bring in goes on to convert through various methods.
Links and mentions from unaffiliated entities: we want to create content that our users find enough value in that they mention, share, or best case, link to via their own websites. You’ll be pitching around 10 entities per quarter for linking to us and tracking the number of links and mentions our SEO content drives.
Monthly/quarterly goals: each quarter you will forecast and report on growth goals.
Organization/prioritization: your ability to stay organized and deliver the most important projects on time without being reminded is paramount to your success. Projects will be tracked through a work management platform such as Asana, Trello, or others.
Performance reviews: twice a year you will be subject to reviews by your peers and your manager. Your ability to work cross-functionally is also paramount to your success.
