Job Description

SUMMARY

The primary responsibilities of the Database Administrator will be providing senior level management of First Interstate BancSystems databases by analyzing requirements, design, resolving problems at a  senior escalation level, validate security and integrity of databases, and participating in planning for future needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may be assigned.

  • Documents, tracks, and monitors tasks to ensure accuracy.
  • Assists with specific projects, as required.
  • Requires understanding the principals and concepts of bank operations, loan operations and financial principals.
  • Required to stay abreast of technology needs and regulations of all databases used by FIB.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance, upgrades and patches to systems.
  • Understand how supported applications interact with the underlying technologies including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle DB, and IBM DB2.
  • Monitors database performance and recommends improvements to queries and indexes.
  • Provisions database users, groups, and roles to enforce security policies.
  • Tests backups and restores.
  • Must guarantee that data is stored securely and optimally.
  • Document’s procedures and guidelines.
  • Required to understand concepts and principals of a transactions service provider.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year College or University in Information Systems or related technical degree; and a minimum of three years’ experience in Information Technology or Information Systems. Industry certifications may be considered in place of a College degree. MCSE, MCITP, CCNA certifications required.

OTHER SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Understanding of Microsoft based solutions including Microsoft(s) Active Directory, Group Policy, SQL, IIS, PowerShell, and System Center Configuration Manager.
  • Deep knowledge of the following computer operating systems. Windows Server ’12, Windows Server ’16, Windows Server ’19, with Linux variants a plus, including Cent OS, Red Hat, and Ubuntu.
  • Solid understanding of enterprise client/server relationships, SAN environments, VM environments, networking (TCP/IP), and Internet technologies.
  • Understanding of database technologies Microsoft SQL Server 2012, 2014, 2016,2017, and 2019. Along with MySQL, IBM DB2 and Oracle DB.
  • Must be able to work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload.
  • Ability to solve complex problems independently.
  • Must be a self-starter and detail oriented.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Strong communication skills are critical to allow effective communication with customers to build positive, professional relationships and to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, vendors and internal customers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
