Job Description

The Controller position within Zoot Enterprises focuses on overseeing all accounting operations. Responsibilities include the recording of accurate and timely financial information and maintaining a set of controls and procedures designed to mitigate risk and enhance accuracy and efficiency.  This position is also responsible for the supervision and development of the Accounting group and its functions, which includes accounts payables and receivables, payroll, and general ledger accounting. The Accounting group within Zoot focuses on the proper, accurate, and timely processing and reporting of the financial transactions of Zoot Enterprises and its subsidiaries and affiliates.
Primary Job Duties
  1. Inspire, lead, direct, coordinate, and oversee all activities of the Accounting group for Zoot Enterprises, Inc. and its subsidiaries and affiliates.
  2. Maintain current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards and ensure compliance and minimize risk.
  3. Manage the Accounting group to meet all corporate, accounting, payroll, month end close, year-end close, audit, compliance, and reporting timelines.
  4. Responsible for the design, implementation and integration of accounting systems and to develop system and process redundancies.
  5. Facilitate and achieve a service-focused culture with emphasis on delivering on-time, high-quality products and services to internal and external customers.
  6. Supervise, lead, and support Accounting group members in completing all tasks such as: recording transactions, billing, collections, payables, credit card programs, payroll, journal entries, reconciliations, and all others duties necessary.
  7. Identify, document, and manage acceptable standards of work to be completed by the Accounting group.
  8. Determine staffing requirements, interview, hire and train new employees, complete employee performance evaluations, mentorship, and skill development.
  9. Review existing processes and procedures and maintain a sound internal controls system; update as required to ensure effective work methods, continuous improvement, and high-quality interactions with other groups within the company and its subsidiaries and affiliates.
  10. Prepare and/or assist in preparation of financial statements, audit documentation, business activity reports, or reports required by regulatory agencies.
  11. Prepare and provide detailed financial reports and ad hoc reports to executive management.
  12. Evaluating and maintain the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting databases and systems and provide support as needed.
  13. Achieve a service-focused culture with emphasis on delivering on-time, high-quality products and services to internal and external customers.
  14. Compliance with and knowledge of Zoot’s Policies and Procedures, Code of Business Conduct, and Employee Agreement.
  15. Other duties as assigned – it is understood that this list of major duties and responsibilities is not an inclusive list and that other duties and responsibilities, which may include helping others in the same or different departments, may be assigned by supervision.
Required and Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting or related field required
  • Certified Public Accountant License preferred
  • 5+ years of related work experience preferred
  • Or, an equal combination of education and experience
