WHAT YOU WILL DO

OnX seeks a UX Researcher passionate about highlighting and uncovering customer insights through qualitative mixed-method research.  As an onX UX Researcher, you will influence teams to make customer-centric decisions across the product development Lifecycle. This includes discovery research to understand customer needs and problems and continuous evaluative research that informs future iterations.

Your focus will be on utilizing a broad range of both generative and evaluative user research techniques to develop a deeper understanding of our customers, turning research findings into actionable insights in partnership with product teams and leaders across our organization.

This role will serve as the steadfast advocate for our customers and represent the voice of the customer at onX. This position will report to the Sr. Director of Product Design.

As a Senior UX Researcher, your essential job duties and responsibilities will look like: 

  • Use user research techniques to develop a deeper understanding of our customers through field visits, ethnography, surveys, usability studies, and benchmark studies.
  • Draw on multiple sources and types of data to identify and answer research questions, including qualitative and quantitative user research data, analytics, customer surveys, CX support logs, and more
  • Lead exploratory and evaluative research that drives customer-centered innovation and improvement of onX products
  • Take an inclusive approach to research and design, ensuring our participants, data, and recommendations reflect the diverse settings and backgrounds of our users
  • Contribute to internal operational processes that bolster the rigor, speed, visibility, and demonstrate the value of research
  • Be a human-centered research and design advocate—have an expert opinion, use your voice, mentor and train others, and share your knowledge widely internally
  • Pioneer novel research approaches to understanding onX’s users and technologies web and mobile experiences

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree in human-computer interaction, information science, anthropology, psychology, sociology, or related field or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in the study of consumer-facing product experience research
  • Expert-level knowledge of qualitative, participatory, and mixed-method research methodologies and their execution across remote, in-person, moderated, and unmoderated formats
  • Proven experience turning research findings into actionable insights for product teams and leaders across an organization
  • A holistic and collaborative approach to defining and solving problems, and the ability to triangulate insights across varied sources of evidence
  • Strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills; the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication and presentation skills, with the ability to make complex ideas easily understandable
  • A strong sense of ownership, transparency, flexibility, and ability to self-initiate projects
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills evidenced by the ability to self-manage and appropriately scope and manage collaborative research projects

ADDED BONUSES

Though not required, we would be thrilled to consider candidates with any of the following:

  • Expert-level knowledge of design patterns and common usability challenges for web and mobile applications
  • Experience applying quantitative methods to the exploration and analysis of mobile and web products
  • Experience building behavioral customer personas or groups for product teams to utilize
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards, localization, internationalization, and translation
  • Experience with the utilization of mapping, navigation or geospatial applications and outdoor recreation is a plus

WHERE YOU CAN WORK

Montana or remote from select locations. onX’s corporate offices are located in Missoula and Bozeman, Montana. This position can be performed near a corporate office or remotely from one of onX’s “Basecamps,” which are emerging locations where fully remote onXers cluster for work and adventure. onX’s current Basecamps are located within a 120-mile radius of the following cities: Austin, TX; Denver, CO; Minneapolis, MN; Portland, OR; Salt Lake City, UT; and Seattle, WA.

HOW YOU’LL BE COMPENSATED

onX is committed to compensating all employees fairly and equitably for their contributions. For this position, applicants can expect to make between $140,000 to $160,000 upon hire. The pay range will vary based on experience, skills, certifications, and education among other factors as required in the job description. In addition, full-time onX employees are eligible for a grant of common share options with a vesting schedule and a potential annual bonus of 10% based on company performance.
