Job Description

As a pioneer in digital outdoor navigation with a suite of apps, onX was founded in Montana, which in turn has inspired our mission to awaken the adventurer inside everyone. With more than 300 employees located around the country working in largely remote / hybrid roles, we have created regional “Basecamps” to help remote employees find connection and inspiration with other onXers. We bring our outdoor passion to work every day, coupling it with industry-leading technology to craft dynamic outdoor experiences.

Through multiple years of growth, we haven’t lost our entrepreneurial ethos at onX. We offer a fast-paced, growing, tech-forward environment where ownership, accountability, and passion for winning as a team are essential. We value diversity and believe it leads to different perspectives and inspires both new adventures and new growth. As a team, we’re hungry to improve, value innovation, and believe great ideas come from any direction.

onX is seeking a Public Relations Manager to build and manage our in-house PR program for our Hunt and Fish verticals. One part storyteller, one part researcher, you’ll develop and execute PR initiatives that secure earned media coverage reaching endemic, regional, and national audiences and shape the way these audiences understand our products and our brand. This role will run the PR program for the Hunt and Fish businesses at onX and will report to the onX PR and Communications Senior Manager.

As an onX Public Relations Manager, your essential job duties and responsibilities will look like:

  • Media relations. Manage all in-bound requests and outbound pitching for the Hunt and Fish verticals, building long-term relationships with journalists and media organizations, creating media lists, as well as developing and hosting in-person media experiences and events.
  • Strategic storytelling. Develop relationships across the organization to understand key business strategies and to craft narratives that promote our products, technology, company brand, access and stewardship initiatives, customers, and partners.
  • Content creation. Craft written and other compelling materials to support product and other brand initiatives.
  • Integrated marketing. Consider the broader marketing ecosystem and how onX can leverage its PR channel when it comes to go-to-market campaigns, events, speaking opportunities, award applications, and more. As a member of a matrix organization, you’ll collaborate closely with the Hunt and Fish marketing teams, aligning your work to support their business goals.
  • Spokesperson. Well-spoken and articulate, you’ll be an external representative for the onX Hunt and Fish products, and support our team of spokespeople, briefing them for mediated opportunities such as interviews, speaking opportunities, and other engagements.
  • Monitor and measure. Monitor industry trends and tap into them, when relevant. Track media coverage and analyze the efficacy of PR campaigns and make data-driven adjustments.
  • Passion. Lifelong passion for the outdoors, public land access, hunting and fishing.

  • Four (4) or more years of proven Public Relations (PR) experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or relevant field; in lieu of a degree, an additional two (2) or more years of relevant experience
  • An understanding of PR's role within a highly-integrated marketing organization
  • Existing relationships across the evolving media landscape, particularly in the hunting and fishing industries
  • Excellent demonstrable communication, storytelling, and presentation skills (written, verbal, and visual)
  • Proven success in uncovering interesting stories, aligning them to business goals, and bringing them to life via securing media coverage
  • Excellent project management skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to plan media events, with attention to every detail
  • A shared passion for and ability to demonstrate onX’s Company Values
  • Permanent US work authorization is a condition of employment with onX.
  • This position requires that a portfolio of work samples be submitted for consideration.
  • Ability to travel a few times each quarter for multiple days to attend events, host media, and join the onX team at a corporate office or other onX strategic location, such as a Basecamp.
