Position: Manufacturing Engineer
Position Type: Full-Time, On-site
Location: Billings, MT
Role and Responsibilities:
The Manufacturing Engineer will play a crucial role in the continuous development and improvement of manufacturing processes to ensure an efficient production and manufacturing department. We’re looking for a precision-oriented professional with highly developed leadership qualities and the ability to work efficiently and within budget. This position is responsible for process development, improvement, and the smooth execution of project transitions to production all while contributing to our commitment of excellence. The detailed roles and responsibilities for the position are provided below:
Primary Responsibilities include:
Process/Workflow
- Work with cross functional teams including engineering, production, and supply chain to introduce new products to manufacturing, and develop the manufacturing processes to ensure that all products are manufactured consistently.
- Create and maintain product build instructions and build record documentation.
- Assist in delivering product & process training to production employees.
- Manage and update process documentation information resulting from process changes (procedures, instructions, forms and training).
- Establish and verify new equipment capabilities and process parameters prior to formal release to production.
- Research and purchase new and/or custom equipment and tooling to support manufacturing operations.
- Assist in identifying the need for new vendors, processes, and training.
- Develop procedures and a robust process for incoming part inspection.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Troubleshoot manufacturing processes, techniques, and quality issues and develop corrective actions to maintain expected productivity and acceptance levels.
- Perform data analysis and problem-solving activities for root cause analysis which lead to the quantitative resolution of manufacturing issues.
- Assist in developing quality testing, and production standards for the various product lines.
- Assist in the development and recommendation of equipment and workstation layouts to optimize production efficiency and improve quality levels of processes.
- Evaluate existing assembly processes and methods and provide recommendations to reduce cost and improve manufacturing efficiency.
- Establish labor standards for assembly operations and monitor performance to set standards.
- Develop methods to measure, monitor, and evaluate equipment and processes.
- Evaluate existing manufacturing processes and workflows to identify areas that could benefit from changes and improvements (e.g. lean manufacturing).
Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
- Regularly monitor product specifications, engineering technology and production processes for consistency.
- Recommend and oversee DFM improvements with the engineering and production teams.
Organization
- Participate in the development of the lifecycle of a product’s technical manufacturing process from design, first build, pre-production builds, production, and through to end-of-life.
- Collaborate regularly with other departments and with team members to meet production goals and deadlines.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Required Qualifications: To succeed in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering technology, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, or related discipline.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in high tech manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Experience with electromechanical assemblies and devices.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Outstanding attention to detail and precision task execution.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Experience with, and a desire to work within, a fast-paced, startup environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently when necessary.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
Desired Qualifications include:
- Quality control experience in product manufacturing.
- Experience with SolidWorks or similar software.
- Experience in project management including establishing and maintaining project timelines with minimum direct supervision.
- Lean or Six Sigma certification.
