Job Description

Job Summary: The Corporate Tax & Financial Accountant is responsible for managing and ensuring compliance with federal, state, county, and local tax requirements, including multi-state tax jurisdictions, and supporting strategic tax planning initiatives. In addition to tax responsibilities, the position prepares accurate and timely internal financial statements, performs monthly reconciliations, and maintains robust financial reporting and control processes to support the organization’s operational and strategic goals.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Tax Compliance and Reporting

  • Coordinate outsourced tax preparation processes, ensuring timely and accurate responses to data requests and inquiries.
  • Monitor and update the compliance calendar monthly to ensure timely and accurate tax filings.
  • Perform regular product code (GCID) audits to verify proper tax classifications.
  • Stay updated on developments in federal, state, and local tax regulations, researching and advising on tax implications for the business.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for tax audits, inquiries, and external authorities, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
  • Prepare, review, and file required tax reports, including:
    • Annual Property Tax Filings
    • Telecom Tax Filings (monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, annual)
    • USAC 499 filings (quarterly and annual)

Financial Reporting and Analysis

  • Prepare and review monthly internal financial statements, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Conduct detailed variance analysis, identifying trends and discrepancies, and communicating findings to leadership.
  • Perform and document monthly account reconciliations to maintain the integrity of financial records.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing requested documentation and information.

Strategic Support

  • Assist the CFO and Controller in tax planning and developing strategies to optimize the organization’s tax position.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness of financial and tax reporting.
  • Provide expertise to support decision-making processes and ensure financial compliance with regulatory requirements.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  

 Knowledge of:

  • Federal, state, and local tax laws and compliance requirements, including multi-state tax jurisdictions.
  • Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Financial reporting, analysis, and internal control concepts.
  • Telecom and broadband industry-specific tax requirements (e.g., USAC 499 filings).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial systems.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in preparing and analyzing financial statements.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain advanced Excel models and spreadsheets.

 Education and Experience:  

Any combination equivalent to the following education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would qualify. A typical way to obtain knowledge, skills and abilities would be bachelor’s degree in accounting, or related field; 5+ years of related work experience, CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
